Amber has overcome many trials throughout her life. Overwhelmed by her pain and shame, her world was so small, and she couldn't see past her emotions. Once she believed in her ability to heal, change began. Healing is a lifelong journey for Amber. Breaking the decades of generational trauma is no small task. Out of her healing, Amber was guided to become a Peer Coach. She is honored to walk with those making similar changes or deciding how to take their next step in life. Showing up, being present, and genuinely listening to people have been a gift from her journey. Some of her clients come to her in a natural, raw state, and by connecting and community support, something magical happens. Amber is paying forward what was freely given to her. Experiencing community and a safe place to be and to be seen can be life-changing. Her world is significant, and so is her vision. Giving her pain a purpose has released her from the bondage of shame.
My name is Autumn Swain, and I am an alumni of Sparkle LLC. I was first arrested back when I was just seventeen, and that was just the start of my very long journey with jails and institutions. From age 17-25, I was in and out of jail and prison. In April 2019, I was released from Denver Women’s Correctional Facility on parole. I made it maybe two or three months before I relapsed. As much as I wanted a new life, I wasn’t sure how to grasp it. Familiarity and comfortability were where I found myself. In June 2020, I went to the New Beginnings Recovery Center. I did a thirty-day stay and found myself surrounded by people who struggled with similar struggles. I found a family and a new place to feel comfortable. I soon found myself in the rooms of NA. In August 2020, I was hired at New Beginnings Recovery Center as a client liaison, eventually working my way up to the administrative assistant position. I realized along the way that my passion isn’t just for helping others; it’s for helping those who are just like myself. The people who have struggled with addiction and abandonment, who have been incarcerated, and the mothers who have had to fight to keep their children. Today I am a recovery coach for Rooted 303 and Mountain West Recovery. I have been sober for four years, and for the first time in ten years, I have been off parole for almost four years. I am raising a wonderful little boy. I am now able to help other people who are struggling to find their way in life. I am now able to help other mothers who are fighting to get their children back.
